Here We Are…
…and here we are again.

I love the beginning of a new dance season. There is the joy of meeting familiar faces again, the curiosity of welcoming new ones, and that little sense of beginning that comes with a first class.
And of course, none of us is quite the same person who left the dance floor two months ago.
Summer has happened. Life has happened. We have travelled or stayed home, rested or worked, celebrated, worried, laughed, got tired, recovered, changed — or perhaps none of the above. Life leaves its traces. Sometimes visible ones. Sometimes we have absolutely no idea what has changed until we start moving.
Come as you are
One of the things I cherish about our dance practice is precisely this invitation to notice what is here, right now. Not what should be here. Not what I would prefer to be here. This body, this breath, this energy, this mood, this particular Saturday morning.
And then we can start moving from there.
Let’s see where our feet take us across the floor of this beautiful old church. Let’s allow the dance to grow, meet familiar dances and unfamiliar ones, and welcome each other just as we happen to be when we meet.
Perhaps that is enough for a new beginning: to arrive, to notice, to move — and to be curious about what happens next.
I am very much looking forward to seeing you there.
Here we are… Let’s dance

My Body Is My House…
How does my body respond?

This week, you chose the music.
A collection of very personal choices, reflecting our different tastes, stories and colours, woven together into one musical landscape.
This class is a celebration of music.
As each track begins, one simple question:
How does my body respond?
Where does this music touch me?
What part of my body comes alive?
And if I don’t like a piece of music… what will my dance be?
How does my body express resistance?
Can appreciation dance?
Can resistance dance?
Every piece of music invites a different conversation with our bodies.
Whether we love a piece of music or not, each one is the fruit of someone’s imagination, inspiration, dedication and work. Behind every melody is a human being who created something and offered it to the world.
Perhaps we don’t often stop to think about that.
This Saturday, let’s celebrate music, those who create it, and the many different ways our bodies respond to it.
Come and join us on a common floor and in a common dance!
Good music is going to support us in our explorations.

My Body Is My House…
The Wisdom of Enough

Sometimes a class begins long before I step onto the dance floor. This one began during the recent heatwave.
Like many of you, I noticed how my body responded to the intense temperatures. It slowed down. It asked for more pauses, more shade, more water… and less effort.
My first reaction was, of course, to negotiate with it. “Come on… you should still be able to do this.” But little by little, another question emerged:
What if the body isn’t giving up?
What if it is simply asking for a wiser way of moving?
That question stayed with me.
It also met another very familiar part of myself — the one that likes to be efficient, capable, sometimes even a little too determined.
For this exploration, I found myself drawn to the belly. To the quiet world of our organs. They never stop working, yet they never seem to hurry. They don’t strive or perform. They simply do what needs to be done, moment after moment, sustaining life with remarkable intelligence.
There is something I can learn from them.
Then my eyes rested on a mobile hanging in our home.
It doesn’t become limp or collapse. It remains beautifully structured, yet it no longer resists. Every element responds to the slightest movement, each one naturally finding its place in response to the gentlest breath of air.
I guess our bodies have known this wisdom all along.
What happens when we stop holding more than we need to?
Can movement become lighter without becoming smaller?
Can we move fully while using only the effort that is truly needed?
A tree doesn’t push its branches to grow faster.
A cat doesn’t spend energy it doesn’t need.
Water doesn’t force its way forward; it finds its way.
Perhaps we, too, can rediscover that wisdom.
I don’t know where this exploration will lead us.
I simply know that, right now, it feels like exactly the dance I need.
Perhaps it is one you need, too.
Come and join us on a common floor and in a common dance!
Good music is going to support us in our explorations.

Center

Sometimes life chooses our theme for us.
For the past weeks, my back has been asking for a lot of attention. Pain has a curious way of pulling us away from our balance, our ease, sometimes even from that quiet sense of being at home in ourselves.
And yet, what I am re-discovering again and again is that Center is not something we need to invent when life becomes challenging.
It is already there.
Not as a fixed place where everything is perfect, but as a resource we can return to, again and again.
This makes Annette’s upcoming class on Center feel especially meaningful to me.
She writes:
“To come to center allows us to find a still point, from which to connect with the different dimensions of ourselves. In centering we can bring our attention to physical sensations and find alignment and balance. To know our center also means to know how to come back when we lose balance. Practicing to return again and again can teach us how to find rest in the eye of the storm that is our present.”
I find this deeply encouraging.
Perhaps being out of balance does not mean being lost.
Discomfort does not necessarily mean disconnection.
Even when the body feels challenged, something in us may still know the way back.
Annette will be holding this Saturday’s class, and I am deeply grateful to her for stepping in while I navigate my current back adventure. I cannot imagine a more fitting theme right now.
If you feel called to explore Center — not as an idea, but as a lived experience — come and dance with us. 💛
Come and join us on a common floor and in a common dance!
Good music is going to support us in our explorations.

My Body Is My House…
Hands

“The hands know what the mind has yet to discover.”
Carl Jung
Our hands are rarely still.
They reach, hold, shape, carry, push, pull, touch.
They greet, they comfort, they build, they express.
Sometimes it seems that the hands speak their own language.
If you watch people carefully, you may notice how much of what we feel, think, or intend travels through the movement of the hands.
A small gesture can reveal excitement, hesitation, impatience, joy.
The hands often reveal the energy that is moving through us.
They can also influence it.
A small gesture of the hand can activate the whole body.
The arms follow, the shoulders respond, the spine organizes itself around that simple movement.
And the opposite is true as well.
The hands can become quiet.
They can soften, rest, and settle.
When the hands settle, something in the whole system often settles with them.
In this Bare Bones class we will bring our attention to the hands — not to perform with them, but to explore what they know.
How they activate movement.
How they allow movement to settle.
How they shape the rhythm and tone of the body.
As always in this series, we stay close to the physical experience: bones, joints, muscles, touch, sensation.
From there, movement unfolds — sometimes lively, sometimes calm, sometimes surprisingly playful.
Perhaps we will discover that the hands are not only instruments of action, but also companions in listening.
You are welcome, exactly as you are.
Come and join us on a common floor and in a common dance!
Good music is going to support us in our explorations.

My Body Is My House…
The Meditation Cycle

“We do not ‘have’ a body; we are our body.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh
This Saturday we return to a powerful practice that is very dear to me:
the Meditation Cycle.
Many of you already know this simple and profound structure — sitting, walking, moving — and the quiet rhythm it creates.
The body awareness we have been cultivating in our Bare Bones explorations becomes a quiet companion here, allowing this meditation cycle to be lived from the inside — through breath, weight, gravity, and sensation.
At the heart of this practice lies a small but powerful word: just.
Just sit.
Just walk.
Just move.
Nothing to achieve. Nothing to improve. Nothing to perform.
Simply sitting, sensing the body breathing.
Simply walking, feeling the ground meeting the feet.
Simply moving, allowing the body to respond to music and silence alike.
In Bare Bones we have been paying close attention to the physical body — bones, muscles, breath, gravity. Yet the body is never isolated. When we listen carefully to what is happening physically, other dimensions naturally begin to move as well: emotions, thoughts, inner states we might call spirit or presence.
The body becomes the doorway. And through that doorway, many aspects of our experience are quietly invited to appear.
And again and again, the practice brings us back to something very simple: this moment.
The breath that is happening now.
The body that is here now.
The step that touches the ground now.
We will repeat this cycle several times. Each return is an invitation to rediscover the ordinary gestures that shape our lives: sitting, walking, moving — the quiet architecture of our days.
Again and again we return to the body:
to bones meeting gravity,
to breath moving through space,
to movement arising from sensation.
Sometimes the most essential explorations are the simplest ones.
You are welcome, exactly as you are.
Come and join us on a common floor and in a common dance!
Good music is going to support us in our explorations.

My Body Is My House…
Feet

“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet
and the winds long to play with your hair.”
Khalil Gibran, The Prophet
Watching my grandson take his very first steps these days, I am struck by how much of the world is discovered through the feet. Each tiny step changes his relationship to space. With every contact of the foot on the ground, the world seems to expand for him. A new direction opens, a new possibility appears. Through his feet, he is quite literally discovering space.
It makes me wonder how often we truly notice our own feet in a mindful, embodied way. They work silently and continuously, supporting our weight, adjusting our balance, guiding our direction — often without entering our conscious awareness.
Through our feet, we sense the ground, the firmness or softness beneath us, the distance between here and there. They participate in how we orient ourselves in space, together with the rest of the body. Quietly, without asking for attention, they organize stability, direction, and presence.
This Saturday, we continue the Bare Bones series by bringing our attention to the feet — returning to their simple, essential role in how we stand, move, and inhabit space.
In this class, we will return to the physical experience of the feet: how they touch the ground, how they receive weight, how they initiate movement. By listening more closely to this contact, we may begin to sense space differently — how we move through it, how we orient within it, and how the body continuously reshapes its relationship to the space around us.

My Body Is My House…
Face

The face is often the most active part of the body — even when we are not aware of it. The jaw holding, the eyes focusing, the forehead tightening, the mouth shaping expressions almost continuously. We rarely think of the face as a place of effort, and even less as a place where release could begin.
And yet, if the body is our home, the face is one of its most inhabited rooms. A place where we organize ourselves, present ourselves, and often hold more than we realize.
This class is an invitation to explore release through physical embodiment, starting with the face — jaw, mouth, lips, eyes, forehead — and sensing how softening here can ripple through the whole body. Not by trying to relax, but by listening. Not by pushing anything away, but by allowing.
As always in Bare Bones, we return to what is essential: bones, flesh, muscle, breath, sensation, and movement. Discovering how much can shift when we give attention to places we usually overlook.

My Body Is My House…
Tailbone

This Saturday, we continue the Bare Bones series — a practice of returning to physical embodiment, to bones, breath, weight, and sensation as the ground of our experience.
Our attention will turn toward the spine, and more particularly the tailbone — a small and often overlooked place at the very end of the spine. A place that often remains in the background, unless we take the time to feel.
There is a long memory living in the body. Not something we think about or recall consciously, but something that can be sensed when we listen physically — through bones, posture, and the way movement begins. What no longer exists on the outside sometimes remains as a trace inside, reshaped and condensed into structure.
In this class, we will approach the tailbone through physical embodiment: sensing, breath, imagination, and movement. Imagining a tail is not a way of leaving the body or escaping into fantasy — it is a way of listening more closely to what is already here, in the present moment.
As always, we will create space to dance, to pause, and to let movement settle.

Shoulders

As part of the ongoing Bare Bones series, this second class continues our exploration of physical embodiment, bringing attention to another essential part of the body.
This class brings our attention to the shoulders — this wide, complex area of the body where movement meets space and relationship. The shoulders are not just there to carry or to do. They are a place of connection, orientation, and choice. A living landscape where reaching and returning, opening and protecting, expansion and gathering can all take shape.
Through dance, sensation, and breath, we will explore what becomes possible when we inhabit the shoulders more fully. How movement changes when this area is allowed to be mobile, responsive, and alive. How different qualities of presence emerge when the shoulders are given time and space to express themselves, in their own way.
This class is an invitation to continue the journey of physical embodiment — to explore another room of the body, to dance its architecture, and to discover how physical exploration can open pathways for creativity, awareness, and relationship.
