I love the beginning of a new dance season. There is the joy of meeting familiar faces again, the curiosity of welcoming new ones, and that little sense of beginning that comes with a first class.

And of course, none of us is quite the same person who left the dance floor two months ago.

Summer has happened. Life has happened. We have travelled or stayed home, rested or worked, celebrated, worried, laughed, got tired, recovered, changed — or perhaps none of the above. Life leaves its traces. Sometimes visible ones. Sometimes we have absolutely no idea what has changed until we start moving.

One of the things I cherish about our dance practice is precisely this invitation to notice what is here, right now. Not what should be here. Not what I would prefer to be here. This body, this breath, this energy, this mood, this particular Saturday morning.

And then we can start moving from there.

Let’s see where our feet take us across the floor of this beautiful old church. Let’s allow the dance to grow, meet familiar dances and unfamiliar ones, and welcome each other just as we happen to be when we meet.

Perhaps that is enough for a new beginning: to arrive, to notice, to move — and to be curious about what happens next.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you there.
