The Art of Choice
WHAT IF… I LET GO (part 2)

There are things in life we hold dear. People we love, memories we treasure, dreams and hopes we don’t want to lose.

And there are other things we hold on to: disappointments, expectations that haven’t been met, situations we wish had turned out differently. Sometimes even anger towards someone or something that has hurt us.

We hold on for many reasons. Because something matters to us. Because we want to protect it. Because we are afraid of losing it. Or because we wish things were different.

And very easily, holding on can turn into gripping. Without even noticing, we may become so attached to something that it begins to limit our freedom.

And there are good reasons for holding on. Our attachments are part of who we are. Our anger can give us strength. Even our grief speaks of what has mattered deeply in our lives.

What if letting go didn’t mean giving up what matters to us?

What if we could loosen our grip without losing our love, our convictions, or even our anger?

Perhaps the question isn’t whether we should hold on or let go, but whether we have some freedom in how we hold.

Can I remain committed without becoming rigid? Can I allow things to change without abandoning what matters to me? Can I stay with something difficult without being completely caught up in it?

And perhaps, sometimes, I don’t want to let go at all. That, too, is worth noticing.

In this Open Floor class, we’ll continue exploring the dance between holding on and letting go, opening the possibility of discovering different ways of responding to what life brings us.

Not to get rid of anything, but to become curious about the choices available to us.

What if I could hold on without being held captive by what I hold?
