Perfectly Imperfect: I am enough !

Reaching out for perfection is an illusion, because nobody is perfect and we KNOW that. We know that and accept it with others, but very rarely we accept it on behalf of ourselves.
And when we fail in being perfect, we feel ashamed. The more we feel ashamed, the more we try again and again to be perfect. It’s a vicious circle…

As we go through life, we get to hear messages from media, friends, family or colleagues like: be attractive, be smart, be popular, push yourself, pursue success…
Or we even don’t get these messages but think that they are given to us

The result is the same:
a never-ending whip of comparison checking, self-rating and self-shaming,
a never-ending loop op self-criticism and judgement

We are ashamed of not measuring up to an invisible standard we’ve created in response to the cultural myths we’ve unknowingly bought into.

What if… we started to feel empathy for ourselves….
We want to be perfect because we want to be loved and accepted, because we want to get empathy from outside. We want others to consider us as “good enough”.

But we will never get all this if we don’t start with ourselves:

“The truth is: Belonging starts with self-acceptance. Your level of belonging, in fact, can never be greater than your level of self-acceptance, because believing that you are enough is what gives you the courage to be authentic, vulnerable and imperfect”
                                                                                                                         Brene Brown

This Saturday, we will explore empathy, compassion for ourselves through and in the movement. Because empathy can only grow from within and radiate outward.

“Empathy says: You and I are made of the same lovely, heartbroken and screwed-up stuff”
Anne Lamott: Almost Everything, Notes on Hope

We will explore how it feels to stand up and stand tall; we are going to embody the ups and downs that we meet in daily life: The “I’m not good enough” and the “I am what I am”

We are going to dance our imperfection and to discover empathy for ourselves.
“What a liberating thing to realize that our problems are probably our richest source for rising to the ultimate virtue of compassion”
