Body parts: VOICES

We usually open our Open Floor classes with a warming up, where we give special attention to (all) our body parts. This journey through our physical self is kind of a scan or maybe kind of a weather report: How am I today in this body ? What is there right now, right here?

Practicing body part awareness is much more than a warming up that would help us to prevent injuries, or would help us to feel welcome on the dance floor!

When we practice conscious dance, Movement is our language and every part of our body that is moving comprises our voice and our vocabulary of this language. Each part  can speak to another part : Moving becomes a conversation, becomes a new story about our physical and our emotional state, our state of mind and of soul.

Embody these voices enables us to move in new ways, ways that open the door to creativity. We might get aware that we are stuck in old movement habits and that there is a possibility for new ways of moving, for new shapes.

This Saturday we’ll give all our attention to our body parts: we’ll wake them up, we’ll give them the attention that they deserve, we’ll listen to their voices.
