Welcoming and embracing vulnerability

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”                                                                        Brené Brown: The power of Vulnerability

When we step into the dance floor, one of our intentions is that we let our bodies speak the truth. Our dance comes from the inside, it’s the mirror, it’s the physical expression of what is living deep inside us.

On the dance floor we can give ourselves permission to be authentic. “Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” (BB)

Daring to dance the truth is an act of courage. It is risky, because we expose ourselves. It might be uncomfortable because we tend to avoid exploring darkness. It is uncomfortable because we are afraid that people won’t like us if they know the truth about who we are and how much we are struggling.

Being vulnerable means we have the capacity to experience emotions:
Without vulnerability, no love, no compassion, no honest and shared grief, no joy is possible!

Showing up entirely, showing up vulnerable, accepting discomfort, cultivating the courage to be uncomfortable is a part of growth. Growing is a process. On the dance floor, in this safe place, we can cultivate the courage to be vulnerable so that we can take it outside on the bigger floor of our daily lives.

“ Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change”. (BB)
