Many of us lead very active lives, always on the go, always doing. Whether in our professional or private lives, our lives are flooded with activity.

Some of these activities we’ve chosen and we love them: we’re engaged, we’re getting to know other people, new places, new experiences, we want to be part of, to discover, to enrich ourselves.

And then there are other things we don’t like doing so much, but they’re part of our life, part of our environment, we’re supposed to do this or that, and sometimes we get caught up in a spiral of activism that we haven’t chosen.

More than once, we are overwhelmed by our own activism or that of others and we find neither the time nor the will to calm down.

And we forget that we have an incomparable, miraculous resource that is innate in us, that is offered to us: Breathing!

When we breathe consciously, we can break out of the spiral of activation and settle down. Breathing is both a benefit and a real tool that is constantly at our disposal.

Our breath is there, wherever we are. We don’t need to do anything; it just does it!  It’s an innate movement that is given to us and that supports us in stressful situations. We often become really aware of it if we suffer from respiratory illnesses.

Breath creates space, breath creates freedom. Breath brings relief and release, calm and tranquillity. Breath puts things into perspective, enabling us to weigh up their importance. Breath brings order where everything seems chaotic. Breath renews. Breath regenerates and regulates.

It’s simply so good to breathe. To breathe during and between our activities.
We share this resource with all living beings and we all have a right to it.
Breathing is being alive.

 I am breathing

Breathing just a little
life flows
without thought
of each moment passing
away
draining into the next
every drop of anticipation
sucked dry
of life’s rich bounty
unfolding
of being alive.

Breathing together
of all things
I find myself
awakened
revelling in every drop
of anticipation
dripping wet in the ripe, rich fruit
of life
flowing
effortlessly
into the unexpected joy
of being alive.
