“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet
and the winds long to play with your hair.”
Khalil Gibran, The Prophet

Watching my grandson take his very first steps these days, I am struck by how much of the world is discovered through the feet. Each tiny step changes his relationship to space. With every contact of the foot on the ground, the world seems to expand for him. A new direction opens, a new possibility appears. Through his feet, he is quite literally discovering space.

It makes me wonder how often we truly notice our own feet in a mindful, embodied way. They work silently and continuously, supporting our weight, adjusting our balance, guiding our direction — often without entering our conscious awareness.

Through our feet, we sense the ground, the firmness or softness beneath us, the distance between here and there. They participate in how we orient ourselves in space, together with the rest of the body. Quietly, without asking for attention, they organize stability, direction, and presence.

This Saturday, we continue the Bare Bones series by bringing our attention to the feet — returning to their simple, essential role in how we stand, move, and inhabit space.

In this class, we will return to the physical experience of the feet: how they touch the ground, how they receive weight, how they initiate movement. By listening more closely to this contact, we may begin to sense space differently — how we move through it, how we orient within it, and how the body continuously reshapes its relationship to the space around us.
