Music inspires us. It moves us—sometimes gently, sometimes powerfully. It stirs the heart, sparks the imagination, and often bypasses the barriers of words, touching a deeper layer within us. Music has the unique ability to guide us into movement, whether it’s a familiar melody we love or an unfamiliar rhythm that challenges us to step out of our comfort zone. It becomes an ally, a partner in our dance.

But music can also surprise us, revealing truths we didn’t expect. A track we might initially resist can open doors to new sensations or memories. Another’s favorite song might feel foreign to us, yet it invites curiosity. How does this music want to move me? What stories does it hold?

In this class, I have woven together the tracks you have chosen. This shared musical landscape will create a net around all of us, connecting us through sound. Music becomes the bridge—between the known and the unknown, between individuals, between the physical and the emotional. It can dissolve the illusion of separateness, creating unity and opening space for embodied conversations. It asks us to be present, to receive its gifts fully through our bodies, to dance with it as a catalyst for discovery and healing.

Of course, music isn’t always a benevolent force. It has the power to manipulate, to influence our moods or actions in ways we might not fully realize. This too is part of the dance—to notice, to discern, and to decide how we engage. Do we follow its lead, resist its pull, or find a new pathway through its rhythm?

This week’s class is also an invitation to celebrate the vibrant community we’ve built together. Each of us contributes to this tapestry, and just like the music we bring, we are unique and essential.
This poem by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer beautifully captures this essence:

When we gather to wonder about the sacred,
we begin as separate scraps of cloth,
squares left on the seamstress’s floor.
Perhaps we believe we have nothing to offer
because we are not more whole.
Wonder becomes the needle.
The sacred is green thread.
Communion fills the seams.
And who, or what, is the seamstress?
Of course, we were confused
about our worth. But my god,
it is beautiful when we can’t help but see
how essential we are—the material of us
gathered into the grand cloth.
It is painful to be pierced in the joining.
No one wants to know this.
And yet each time we wonder together,
and wonder, and wonder,
we learn again just how we fit,
how integral we are, how surely
the cloth needs us all.

As we move, listen, and wonder together, let us remember that music is more than entertainment. It is a spark for connection, a thread that stitches us into the grand cloth of community. Let it guide and challenge us, inspire and provoke us, as we discover how we fit—both as individuals and as part of something greater.

  1. Hello Catherine,

It’s been a year or even two that I have the intention of joining your groupe but life seems more busy!

Is it possible to join this coming Saturday?

    Thank you and lovely day
