Expand & Contract — A Dance of Hope and Resilience
Before every summer break, I ask those who dance with me to send me a piece of music they love — and each time, a subtle thread appears. This year, it’s shimmering with lightness, rhythm, playfulness… and something else, too: a quiet call for connection, for meaning, for something that holds.
As I listened to the full arc of this playlist, it felt like a journey — a dance that expands outward in celebration and play, and contracts inward toward truth, belonging, and nourishment. A rhythm we all seem to know in our bones.
Sometimes we move out into the world – arms open, voices lifted, feet grounded in joy. Sometimes we turn toward ourselves – not to hide, but to return home. To gather. To tend to the quiet places inside out. To find stillness, rest, and nourishment – not apart from the world, but as a yay to return to it with more truth, more presence
And somewhere in this pulse between expansion and contraction, resilience shines. Hope emerges.
Thank you — all of you — for the music, for the generosity of your choices (and of your hearts). This class is a response to what I’ve heard through your tracks: a need to greet the world, to soften, to call out, and to reconnect. And also, a need to rest. To let ourselves be nourished, quietly, deeply, and well.
We’ll dance all of that together.
