Ground – Showing Up with Presence and Substance

“Gravity repeatedly tells us, ‘I have a place for you: it is called here.”
–Susan Harper
Last month, we explored ground as our ongoing conversation with gravity—the force that holds us, supports us, and reminds us that we belong.
This Saturday, we will return to this theme—not to repeat, but to deepen.
Because grounding is not something we simply achieve once and for all.
It is a practice, a commitment—a choice we make again and again:
To fully arrive.
To take our place in the world, not by pushing or shrinking, but by standing fully in ourselves, with the quiet dignity of our own presence.
Grounding is not only about physical weight.
It is about presence, substance, gravitas—the steady strength of being here, with all that we are.
Sometimes we hold back.
We hesitate to take up space, to claim our presence, to truly stand where we are.
But what if gravity wasn’t a weight to carry,
but a steady force that gives us a place—
a place that is already ours?
“How surely gravity’s law,
Strong as an ocean current,
Takes hold of even the smallest thing
And pulls it toward the heart of the world . . .
That is what the thing can teach us;
To fall patiently,
to trust our heaviness.”“We arrange our lives in patterns that move
us down paths we sometimes do not choose—
but gravity, patient and sure,
waits to welcome us back to the earth.”
