Last Saturday, we started together our series of The Art of Witnessing focussing first on witnessing ourselves.
This Saturday, we are going to deepen this experience of listening to our body and listening to our inner sensations.

In one of her numerous essays, Mary Starks Whitehouse (Authentic Movement) writes:

The core of the movement experience is the sensation of moving and being moved. Ideally, both are present in the same instant, and it may be literally an instant. It is a moment of total awareness, the coming together of what I am doing and what is happening to me. It cannot be anticipated, explained, specifically worked for, nor repeated exactly.
In order that it may happen, one must have a bodily awareness of movement.

This bodily awareness, this feeling of our body is the kinesthetic sense and it is as precious as our other 5 senses. We all have it, or at least we had it as babies when we were discovering the world and responding to the world with our whole body.

As adults we tend to lose it more and more and… we tend to live in the head. Movement then is “in spite of” instead “with the help of” the mental life.

The less our body is experienced, the less it is our own body, the further away it moves from anything to do with our own self.

Getting closer to ourselves means knowing and then owning feelings and sensations as they show up through movement.

This is what we are looking for, this is what we are going to explore:
Listening to the energy coming from inside, from our secret garden AND moving freely yet conscious of what we are doing, without judgement, without shame.
